Dear Sheryl Tan (Rep), Nadine, Yamini, Jamie, See Yun, Beatrice, Elaine, and Sheryl Wee,
Many, many thanks for giving History 2172 your best shot in the O-levels last year! I'm amazed and elated by your wonderful performance! A 100% As! It's History making history. And it's all because of each one of you bringing home a Distinction.
I was bursting to tell Beatrice and Elaine that afternoon before 2 pm when I met you both. However, I could not steal the P's thunder. During her presentation, I'm sure she mentioned your wonderful results. I arrived in the hall after the History slide.
Yes, I'm very delighted with your efforts in the history O. You've set a very tough standard for 2005 class to keep. More important than that, each one of you has helped to break through an invisible magic barrier - that it's impossible to get a 100% distinctions for History! How liberating for our minds! Now no one can say that it's not possible. Your results are the best in all our school's recorded history of past years' History performances in the Os.
I hope your are also happy with your other grades. And I do hope these will take you to the next level of education and to the institution of your choice. So far, I have no access to your other grades since I was not a Sec 4 form teacher. I guess I just have to wait till all the info is available in the teachers' folder.
Aren't you grinning at the thought that History paid you the best dividend with the least amount of time spent studying it? I am. Some of you were quietly working on your sums during History lessons. History is a dark horse. And this year, it's a lovely dark horse galloping in with a string of As.
Well, it's a new chapter for each one of you in 2005. I wish you girls good success in your studies. May your knowledge and skill in each subject/coursework increase; may you always overcome every problem you face in studies and in life and emerged stronger and wiser.
Thanks, once again, girls.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Chuahi really want to post this cos this is the sweetest and most heart-felt email i've read.. especially when it comes from a teacher. i truly respect ms chuah though i din show it in my actions (i'm one of those doing sums in her class). as we are a really small class, we got her undivided attention. she really cares for all of us, making sure we hand up our work, getting us together to discuss history syllabus. she's willing to listen to our opinions. i remember her saying this to yams "you've better essays than me. i want to photocopy yours for the class". she's a teacher who's always learning.. not only frm ard her, but also from her students.
I've got something to say to her: ms chuah, you are the person who makes me enjoy history, thus that's one of the reasons i do arts. i'd love to study more abt history. you are one teacher who doesn't complain about our misbehave, but instead, accomodate us or talk to us gently (at some point, making us feel so guilty). thanks alot. w/o you, i don't think a histoy a1 is ever possible.
ps: due to such good results, lots of people from my sister's batch is taking history.. like 50 people when we only had 8.
